Cabin Creek Bridge, a 114-foot covered bridge built circa 1870 over Cabin Creek, was constructed on the Burr truss design; its builder is unknown. It has laminated arches and truss rods added later, and Louis Bower employed arches in the early 1900s. Its lack of siding creates a window effect along its entire length. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976. Covered bridges were first built in the 1790s but did not become widely popular until after 1814, and they were covered to protect them from the weather. At one time Kentucky had more than 400 covered bridges. Some were destroyed during the Civil War, and the remaining ones are a nostalgic link with the past.
