Hilliard Almond Wilbanks was a captain in the United States Air Force assigned to the 21st Tactical Air Support Squadron at Nha Trang Air Force Base. He was awarded the Medal of Honor in the name of Congress, the highest award for valor in action, given to a member of the Armed Forces who performs a deed of personal bravery or self-sacrifice with gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of life above and beyond the call of duty. Wilbanks was mortally wounded near Dalat, Republic of Vietnam, on 24 February 1967. He entered service from Atlanta, Georgia, was born in Cornelia, Georgia, on 26 July 1933, and was buried at Fayette Methodist Cemetery in Fayette, Mississippi. His other awards included the Distinguished Flying Cross, Purple Heart, Air Medal with 18 Oak Leaf Clusters, and Air Force Commendation Medal.
