Eufaula National Wildlife Refuge is a protected area on Walter F. George Lake along the Chattahoochee River at the Alabama-Georgia line. Established in 1964 in cooperation with the United States Army Corps of Engineers, it spans 11,184 acres divided between Alabama and Georgia. Its mix of open water, wetlands, woodlands, cropland, and grassland provides diverse habitat for migratory waterfowl and other wildlife, including threatened and endangered species such as the wood stork. The refuge also supports recreation, with lake access for boating, fishing, and kayaking, an auto-tour trail, observation towers, and a walking trail, drawing more than 325,000 visitors each year.
