The mill stood at the center of an industrial complex of buildings, farm fields, and livestock that likely included an overseer's house, a sawyer's house, slave houses, a kitchen building, a carpenter and blacksmith shop, and wagon and log cart sheds, along with stacks of rough and sawn lumber, vegetable gardens, grain fields, and pens for mules and oxen. Chickens, pigs, and milk cows supplied food for paid workers, slaves, and their families. Groups of workers cut down trees by hand and hauled the logs to the mill in large wheeled carts pulled by mules and oxen. After the logs were sawn into boards, the lumber was stacked to dry and prepared for shipment to Saint Augustine by wagon or possibly boat.
