Burt Lake State Park occupies about 125 acres on the south shore of Burt Lake at Indian River in northern Michigan. First purchased in 1920 and expanded with additional parcels through 1939, it was one of 13 parks established soon after creation of the Michigan State Parks Commission, making it part of the early state park system. The park is closely connected to the region’s chain of inland waters and is known for about 2,000 feet of sandy shoreline on Burt Lake. Swimming, boating access to the Inland Lakes Waterway, fishing on Burt Lake and the Sturgeon River, and camping have kept it an active public recreation area.
