History

Magic Mountain Ski Area on Glebe Mountain in Londonderry, Vermont, opened in 1960 under Hans Thorner, who likened its terrain to the Swiss Alps. With a substantial vertical drop for southern Vermont, it grew into part of Vermont’s original “Golden Triangle” of nearby ski areas and became known for steep, classic terrain and extensive tree skiing and glades. After flourishing for decades, it faced repeated setbacks, including closure in 1991 and years of uncertainty after reopening in 1997. A more stable era began in 2016 under SKI MAGIC LLC, whose investments and lift upgrades helped preserve Magic as an independent ski area with a loyal following.
