This block of brick paving is the only extant portion of Hastings' first major street improvement project, completed in 1907 through the initiative of Dr. George W. Lowery, who was elected mayor in 1906. Its fine condition after seven decades of constant use reflects the excellent workmanship of the craftsmen who built it.
