First Baptist Church of Alta Loma was the oldest church in Alta Loma and the second oldest Baptist church on the Galveston mainland. It was organized on Nov. 10, 1895, in a local hotel with 26 charter members. The church established Arcadia Baptist Church in 1945, purchased the "U. S. S. Houston" Memorial Chapel in 1946, and helped organize the Galveston Baptist Association in 1949.
