Rock Loader
Industry
1
This machine loaded a car with rock from a rock tunnel by using a pulley attached to the freshly blasted rock face and ropes running from the loader’s double drum hoist to the scraper shovel. A foot pedal at the side of the loader brought the scraper bucket with its load of rock up the apron of the loader and over a waiting coal or rock car, and after the rock was deposited, a nearby lever returned the scraper bucket to the rock face. The machine was also used in driving tunnels and gangways and was last used in the renovation of the Lackawanna Coal Mine.
