Sanitorium Covered Bridge, a single-span Burr Arch bridge built in 1913 by Joseph A. Britton east of Rockville, Indiana, served the State Tuberculosis Hospital by carrying coal from near Nyesville for heat and power. It replaced a route that had relied on the Plank Road Bridge until that bridge was destroyed in the flood of 1913. After the state sold the hospital property, the bridge deteriorated on private land. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978, it was moved in 2008 to the former Adams Covered Bridge site upstream, where it reopened to traffic and became part of Parke County’s flood-shaped covered bridge history.
