Dunnville Sandstone was quarried at a location first discovered in 1882 by railroad surveyors. Stone such as this was used to construct the shelter house, the Mabel Tainter Memorial building in Menomonie, Saint Thomas Church in New York City, and many other buildings. Ulmer, Salahan, Lang, and H. Walters were active stone quarries located across and up the river from this point.
