Built about 1848 by James Andress of South Carolina, the Andress Inn was the center of civic, social, and business affairs in early Polk County. The inn contained a restaurant, saloon, grocery store, post office, and stage station, with a livery stable nearby. Among its noted guests was General Sam Houston.
