John Henry Kirby State Forest is a 626-acre protected forest reserve in Tyler County, Texas, donated to the state in 1929 by lumber baron John Henry Kirby. Used primarily for research by Texas A&M University, it also remains open to the public for picnics and touring. In the 1930s, the Civilian Conservation Corps helped develop the forest by planting trees, improving timber stands, and constructing infrastructure such as a residence, roads, bridges, fire breaks, and a fire lookout tower. The forest includes the 6.6-mile Longleaf Nature Trail, and revenue from the property supports student-loan programs at Texas A&M.
