History
1
At Hagar Brook stood the small clapboarded mint-house in which Reuben Harmon, Jr. coined copper for the Republic of Vermont from 1785 to 1788. When the Federal Government was instituted in 1789, Vermont abandoned minting. This rare currency of the Republic of Vermont, known as the Harmon Cent, may be seen in museums today.
