Emerald Lake State Park in Dorset, Vermont, centers on 20-acre Emerald Lake, whose green water gave the park its name. About 3 miles north of East Dorset, the 430-acre park is designed for both day use and camping, offering swimming, fishing, hiking, picnicking, bicycling, wildlife watching, winter sports, and non-motorized boating. Its shoreline includes a small beach, snack bar, and boat rentals, while campgrounds provide 67 campsites, 37 lean-tos, and modern facilities. The park also features a nature center and interpretive programs. At the lake’s south end, a 4-acre natural area protects old-growth forest with hemlock, sugar maples, and other hardwoods.
