Jedediah Smith's Trail - Great Salt Lake
History
7
On June 27, 1827, from the point of a ridge at Timpie Point, Jedediah Smith saw an expanse of water extending far to the north and east and the Salt Lake spread before him as a joyful sight. Having traveled so much in the vicinity of the Salt Lake that it had become his home of the wilderness, he then traveled east, found a spring of fresh water, and encamped.
