In 1876 President Brigham Young called the women of the Relief Society to gather and store wheat for times of need. Pleasant Green Relief Society was organized in 1879 with Charlotte Hirst as president. On June 24, 1885, a rock granary built on land given by Joseph Dearden was dedicated, with most materials and labor donated. Later it became the property of the American Smelting and Refining Co. It was presented to the Daughters of Utah Pioneers in 1854, destroyed by road construction in 1964, and a replica of the granary was built from the original materials.
