Founded in 1975 in a renovated store by people of Lincoln County, Lincoln County Primary Care Center, Inc. became the first in the nation to be federally designated as a rural health clinic under PL 95-210. It was hailed as a model care provider, successfully building on community support, dedicated staff, and Marshall University School of Medicine. In 1991, the National Rural Health Association honored it as the nation’s outstanding rural health practice.
