The American Museum of Ceramic Art in Pomona, California, was founded in 2003 by ceramic artist and businessman David Armstrong as a nonprofit devoted to ceramic art. It presents historic and contemporary work through rotating exhibitions and a permanent collection of more than 10,000 objects, including California pottery, industrial ceramics, ancient vessels, Asian and European porcelains, and the renowned Wilsons’ Mettlach collection. After beginning in a storefront, it moved in 2011 into a 1956 former savings and loan building that contains Millard Sheets’s Panorama of the Pomona Valley mural. With exhibitions, a large ceramics studio, residencies, classes, and a research library, it has become a major Southern California center for ceramic art.
