An automotive museum at the Fairplex in Southern California preserves the history of hot rodding and drag racing through race cars, motorcycles, photographs, credentials, and other artifacts tied to the sport and to land speed records. Opened to the public in 1998 in a reconditioned Works Progress Administration building, it grew from the efforts of NHRA staff under founder Wally Parks and was later renamed in his honor. Its collections include notable vehicles such as one of A. J. Foyt’s Coyote Indy Cars and Kenny Bernstein’s first 300-mile-per-hour dragster, while changing exhibitions link drag racing to the wider culture of American performance cars.
