Bates-Morse Mountain is a privately owned conservation area in Phippsburg, Maine, spanning about 600 acres from the Sprague River to the Morse River. Its landscape includes salt marshes, coastal uplands, dense woods, and the shoreline at Seawall Beach. Owned by the Bates-Morse Mountain Conservation Area Corporation, it is used by Bates College for academic study, extracurricular activities, research, and community-engaged learning tied to preserving local plants, animals, and ecosystems. Although its beaches are private, they are sometimes opened by permission for recreation and research. The area also supports educational use by other Maine schools, including Bowdoin College.
