Convent was settled in 1722-1739 as Baron Now, became the parish seat of St. James Parish, was the site of St. Michael's Church in 1809, the site of St. Michael's Convent of the Order of the Sacred Heart from 1825-1932, and the site of Jefferson College from 1831-1931.
