Edward D. Doss was a beloved pioneer doctor in this area for 40 years. He served as a pharmacist, general practitioner, obstetrician, dentist, and on occasion surgeon and nurse. He traveled by horseback, two-wheel cart, and horse and buggy, crossed the river by ferry boat, and wore out three Ford cars. He came to Bend with his wife Arebell Tomblinson in 1882 and owned and operated a general merchandise store with his son Lawrence. No night was too dark or road too long for him to serve his fellow man.
