Tower Butte is a prominent 5,287-foot sandstone summit on Navajo Nation land in northern Arizona, south of Lake Powell and northeast of Page. Rising more than 1,000 feet above the surrounding terrain, it stands out on the Colorado Plateau. The butte is formed from Romana and Entrada sandstones and capped by the Morrison Formation, with runoff draining toward Lake Powell in the Colorado River basin. Its arid setting brings very hot, dry summers and chilly winters with little snow. Although first ascended on October 23, 1994, by Jason Keith and David Insley, evidence showed earlier helicopter landings. Today it is a destination for helicopter sightseeing and broad regional views.
