Alstrom Point is a prominent cape-like landmark in southern Utah’s Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, projecting into Lake Powell between Padre Bay and Warm Creek Bay. Rising nearly 1,000 feet above the water when the reservoir is full, it offers sweeping views over one of the lake’s most recognizable landscapes and has become a noted place for photography and camping. Geologically, it is formed mainly of Entrada Sandstone, with Romana Sandstone and the Morrison Formation above, linking it to nearby landforms. Its rocks record tidal-flat sediments and part of a vast Jurassic sand sea about 160 million years ago, and the point later gained wider recognition through film, music videos, and its status as a signature overlook.
