John Bannister Gibson was born November 8, 1780, in a house near here and served as Chief Justice of Pennsylvania from 1827 to 1851. This was also the birthplace of William Bigler, who was Governor of Pennsylvania from 1852 to 1855 and a U.S. Senator from 1856 to 1861.
