Mount Lawson is a 5,401-foot summit in Washington’s Olympic Mountains, within Olympic National Park and the Daniel J. Evans Wilderness, rising steeply above the North Fork Quinault River drainage in Jefferson County. Though moderate in elevation for the Olympics, it has striking relief, climbing about 3,800 feet above the river in just 1.3 miles. Its naming history is unusually complex: the 1889–90 Seattle Press Expedition originally called this peak Mount Grady, while Mount Lawson referred to a different nearby peak, and an 1896 National Geographic map labeled it Jingo Peak. Over time, Lawson became the accepted name, honoring Victor Lawson of the Chicago Daily News and Associated Press.
