Rattlesnake Point Pueblo, in eastern Arizona, was a late Pueblo IV settlement occupied from about 1325 to about 1400 and among the last of nine Upper Little Colorado communities to be abandoned. Built on a ridge above the Little Colorado floodplain, it was a single-story masonry pueblo of about 85 rooms around an open courtyard and a great kiva. Archaeological evidence points to an organized departure with rooms left in normal use, followed by a fire and centuries of collapse into rubble. Excavations uncovered ceramics, tools, food remains, and other materials, while preservation efforts now contend with erosion from Lyman Reservoir.
