Deer Lakes Park
Nature
Deer Lakes Park is a 1,180-acre regional county park in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, northeast of downtown Pittsburgh in Frazer and West Deer townships. Part of a 12,000-acre, nine-park county system, it takes its identity from three lakes, including one that predated the park and two added later. Spring-fed waters, dams, and settling basins made the park especially suited to fishing. It is also known for an 18-hole disc golf course regarded as one of the highest-rated in the United States. In recent years, the park has figured in debate over proposals to lease natural gas rights there for high-volume hydraulic fracturing.
