Members of the families of the Ladonia Baptist Church congregation proved their loyalty to God and their country by enlisting for service during World War I. They included Miss Lular Dilworth, a Red Cross nurse, Roy Bass, Truss Benson, John L. Bishop, Lonnie Boatright, Foster C. Bomar, Sidney S. De Bord, Jessie L. Day, James A.B. Dilworth, Elmo B. Ellard, Leonard H. Fowler, Alphonso Fry, Edward L. Fulton, Lee Gilbert, Alfred E. Graham, Leon O. Harper, Jack B. Keith, Carl Little, Fred Little, Edgar Little, Hal Little, Thurbert Martin, Albert G. Mitchell, Andrew H. Parsons, Spencer Grelyea, Chas. W. Tucker, Jesse F. Walker, D.G. Wilder, Earnest A. Williams, Walter Williams, James E. Winn, and Walter L. Woodall. James Powell Walker fell in battle in France on August 10th, 1918. In 1918, Woodrow Wilson said, "These gallant men of our armed forces have fought for the ideals which they knew to be the ideals of their country."
