Rock O' the Range Bridge, also called the Swalley Canal Bridge, stands north of Bend beside U.S. Route 97. Built in 1963 for landowner William Bowen to reach his property across the Swalley Canal, it was modeled after Lane County's Goodpasture Bridge and constructed by Maurice Olson for $4,500. It is notable as Oregon's only covered span east of the Cascade Range and as one of the state's few privately owned covered bridges. However, it is not classed as a true covered bridge because it lacks truss support. Its low 9-foot clearance has caused repeated damage, and nearby homeowners, not Deschutes County, maintain it.
