Perhaps the oldest frame residence on the James River west of Richmond, Tuckahoe was begun about 1715 by Thomas Randolph. The little schoolhouse still stands here where Thomas Jefferson began his childhood studies. Famous guests included William Byrd of Westover, Lord Cornwallis, and George Washington. Virginia Governor Thomas Mann Randolph was born here.
