White Bluff and Coffee Bluff were one of four sites historically used by African-Americans in the community to access the water. The White Bluff and Coffee Bluff area was originally settled in the nineteenth century by freed slaves from the nearby islands of St. Catherine, Sapelo, and Ossabaw, and many families in the community today can still trace their roots back to these areas.
