The Lincoln Highway was the first “Coast to Coast” road, covering 3,389 miles across the USA, and it was the dream of Hoosier Carl G. Fisher. In 1913, the Lincoln Highway Association announced that Valparaiso would be part of the route. In 1928, Boy Scouts placed concrete markers from New York to San Francisco as the final project of the Lincoln Highway Association. Few of those markers survive. In 2006, one was gifted to the city and placed on Lincolnway as a reminder that Valparaiso has long been connected to interstate transportation.
