Soldiers of Company F of the 10th Alabama Infantry, C.S.A., were mustered into the Confederate Army under an apple tree at Cropwell and marched to Montevallo, 75 miles away, where they boarded a train to join Gen. Robert E. Lee's army in Virginia; the company included captains, first lieutenants, second lieutenants, sergeants, corporals, privates, recruits, substitutes, and other local patriots not in Company F.
