Waldo Covered Bridge, also known as the Riddle Mill Covered Bridge, spans Talladega Creek near Waldo, Alabama, on the line of an old Socopatoy Indian trail behind Riddle’s Mill. Built in 1858 as a 115-foot single-span wood-and-metal bridge, it uses a notable hybrid of Howe truss and Queen-post truss construction and is the second oldest surviving covered bridge in Alabama. The crossing was linked to local milling, later access to the nearby Riddle’s Hole gold mine, and Union cavalry movements under General James H. Wilson in April 1865. Condemned in the 1960s, it still stands on stone piers but is unmaintained and inaccessible.
