Oregon Creek Covered Bridge, in northern California’s Tahoe National Forest near North San Juan, is one of the few surviving covered bridges in the state and is regarded as either the oldest, or among the oldest, still in general use in the western United States. Built sometime between 1858 and 1871 and closely associated with Tom Freeman, it long served mining and logging communities on Allegheny Ridge Road, part of the Henness Pass Road freight route. After the 1883 failure of English Dam, floodwaters swept the bridge downstream and it was reinstalled reversed. Rehabilitated in 2018, it reopened to light vehicles.
