The Colorado Central Railroad’s Quartz Mill Depot stood on this site. William Loveland constructed the structure from the remnants of the New York Mill, and large doors were built into the building to accomplish this. Tracks engineered up Clear Creek Canyon reached the depot on December 17, 1872. The great stone depot served as the Colorado Central Railroad’s Clear Creek terminus until a track was built to Central City in 1878.
