In downtown Green Bay, Wisconsin, the Neville Public Museum of Brown County preserves and interprets the history, science, art, and culture of Northeast Wisconsin, the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, and the western Great Lakes. Its origins lie in a 1915 display of artifacts organized by the Green Bay Art Club in a library basement. A 1923 gift from Mr. and Mrs. George Grant Mason funded a new museum, named for Mrs. Mason’s mother and stepfather, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur C. Neville, for their civic work. Arthur C. Neville, a lawyer, historian, and Green Bay’s 25th mayor, directed the museum after it opened in July 1927 until his death in 1929.
