The Chicago & North Western Depot was the Packers' usual port of call for road trips for nearly four decades, and those journeys often began or ended with parties thrown by the team's faithful fans. Fans held impromptu homecoming celebrations after exhilarating victories and planned farewell gatherings to encourage the players when times were tough. The Packers left from here on their first road trip, to Ishpeming, Mich., on Oct. 19, 1919, and continued to travel from here on occasional short trips to Chicago and Milwaukee into the 1960s. The biggest celebration came after the Packers clinched their first NFL championship by defeating the Chicago Bears on Dec. 8, 1929, when an estimated 20,000 fans lined the tracks and nearby streets, stood on neighboring rooftops and idle boxcars, and cheered wildly as the team arrived home from Chicago about 8:30 p.m. Another major celebration followed the Packers' 1930 title. On some shorter trips, fans accompanied the team on the train, and the North Western converted a baggage car into a bar car for a party on wheels. The depot opened in 1899, regular passenger service ended in 1971, and Titletown Brewing Co. purchased the building in 1996.
