From 1919 to 1968, the Green Bay Packers grew from a sandlot football team into a National Football League champion that survived in the league's smallest city, won a record 11 league championships, became community property, and forged a lasting bond with loyal fans. Their history from Curly Lambeau's era through Vince Lombardi's remains central to what made the franchise unique. The Packers Heritage Trail was created to connect that team story with the history of the Green Bay community through a self-guided walking tour of significant sites, including the Packing Plant Spur and the Lambeau-Lombardi Spur. Spearheaded by Green Bay native and longtime sportswriter Cliff Christl and his wife, Shirley Christl, the trail opened in 2012 with the Neville Public Museum as its starting point.
