Traders transporting woven goods from Sante Fe to Los Angeles and returning with mules and horses to sell could make a great deal of money, but caravans had to choose between traveling through Long Valley or Marysvale Canyon. Although the canyon route was tempting, the steadier route through Long Valley, east of this location, was easier to travel despite increasing the journey's overall length and lacking water. From there, caravans could later rejoin the Sevier River near Marysvale.
