Sturgeon Bay Canal Light stands at the Coast Guard station near Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, on the east side of the south entrance to the Sturgeon Bay Ship Canal. One of two lights at the site, it marks an important canal approach on the Door Peninsula. Built in 1899, the lighthouse soon developed structural instability, and steel bracing was added in 1903, giving the tower a reinforced form like Devils Island Lighthouse. This early alteration reflects how Great Lakes light stations were adapted to harsh conditions. The station was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1984 and remains a well-known historic aid to navigation.
