Angel Mounds was the site of a palisaded Middle Mississippi Indian village occupied circa 1500 A. D. This 450-acre site includes eleven man-made mounds, a town plaza, and a village area for a population of about 1,000. It was excavated by the Indiana Historical Society from 1939 to 1965.
