Jessie M. Honeyman Memorial State Park, about three miles south of Florence along Highway 101, developed from Camp Woahink as a Civilian Conservation Corps project and later took the name of Portland civic leader Jessie M. Honeyman. Beside the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area, it became an important base for lake recreation, dune access, and camping on the central Oregon coast. Honeyman worked with Samuel Boardman in the 1920s and 1930s to preserve stretches of the Oregon coast. The park’s forests, freshwater lakes, and nearby dunes support swimming, fishing, sandboarding, and all-terrain vehicle use, while surviving CCC buildings preserve part of its historic character.
