Galbreath Wildlands Preserve is a 3,670-acre reserve in California’s Outer Coast Range near Yorkville, encompassing a former sheep ranch within the Navarro watershed where forests, woodlands, grasslands, streams, and ponds support diverse wildlife and anadromous fish, including federally threatened Northern California steelhead. Before European settlement, the area lay within Central Pomo territory, with nearby villages, campsites, and seasonal travel routes linking the coast and interior. Logged heavily in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the land was later managed by Fred Galbreath as a sheep ranch with habitat improvements. Donated to Sonoma State University after his death, it is now protected for research and education.
