Here on his farm, George Alexander Spratt performed aeronautical experiments that aided Wilbur and Orville Wright in achieving the first successful airplane flight. Among the first to use a wind tunnel, he helped the Wright brothers diagnose flaws with their 1901 glider. By using his idea to simultaneously measure a wing's lift and drift forces, the Wrights designed the optimal wing shape for their 1903 Flyer. The Wrights visited here in December 1906.
