Loudon County, first named Christiana, was created in 1870 from portions of Roane, Monroe, and Blount Counties. Construction of this courthouse began soon afterward, and it was built by brothers Ira N. Clarke and J. Wesley Clarke. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1975.
