Old Smokie Frisco Engine was presented to the Missouri State Fair by Frisco Railway and accepted by Governor James T. Blair Jr. on Aug. 20, 1956. It was moved from Fort Scott, Kansas, to its present location by the MKT. Railroad. Built by Baldwin Locomotive Works in Aug. 1943 at Eddystone, Pennsylvania, at an original cost of $194,845, the engine weighed 479,300 pounds, had a cab height of 15 feet, drivers weighing 286,870 pounds, maximum curvature of 20, a Northern type 4-8-4 wheel arrangement, tonnage class 31, and a coil burner. Its tenders weighed 341,000 pounds, stood 13 feet 6 inches high, had a grate area of 88 square feet, a fire box of 262 square feet, boiler pressure of 225 pounds, and a capacity of 18,000 gallons of water and 24 tons of coal, with an automatic stoker. The total weight of the engine and tenders was 820,600 pounds, and Old Smokie operated 285,377 miles and was used during World War II.
