Connell Park, an estate complex of eight buildings in the Wallenpaupack basin, was the first of the basin’s “Second Homes.” It was built in 1903 by coal baron William Connell. In 1912 Col. W.A. Watres acquired the property as part of the land assemblage needed to build Lake Wallenpaupack. In 1966 his family established the Lacawac Sanctuary and gave the property as a memorial to Col. Watres.
